iFallinLove a red heart

Instructions for use

Once you have installed iFallinLove from iTunes, click on the icon to start the application for the first time. You will asked whether it can use your location information. You need to click OK for the application to work (if you have concerns about this, see our privacy statement).

After you have allowed it to use your location the application will show its progress until a small blue heart is beating in the middle of the screen. You are now ready to fall in love.

Solo Use: Make sure you are standing in a place you love very much. Click on the heart to fall in love with it. You will be asked if you are sure - click OK. To show that you are now in love, the heart turns red and - since you are right where you want to be - it grows to fill the screen and beats rapidly. You can now close the application and carry on with your life. From that moment on, whenever you feel lost or misplaced, just open iFallinLove again to see how far you have strayed. A big heart shows you are near, a small one that you are far away.

Two iPhone Users: This works just like the solo mode, but if you fall in love at the same time and place as another user, your iPhones become linked. From then on, as long as you both check in regularly, your heart shows you the distance to the other person. You know when your phone is linked to another because a small icon of two linked hearts appears in the bottom left hand corner. If your lover doesn't remember to check in, the heart shows them at their last known location, and the two heart symbol slowly drifts apart. Tap that symbol to bring up the keyboard to send a "Thought Sparkle". These show up as dancing stars on their display - just tap them to read the messages. Tap the info button to turn on "Cupid's Compass". 3GS handsets show an arrow that points towards your lover. On older handsets, the arrow indicates the point of the compass (up for north, right for east, etc.) to head in to find your mate.

Frequently asked questions

How do know if I'm in love?

The heart changes color: red means in love, blue means not.

How do I know if I'm in love with a place or another phone?

When two phones are linked, an icon appears in the bottom left hand corner showing two linked hearts.

How do I fall in love?

Make sure you are not in love to start with (i.e. the heart is blue). Then tap the heart and click 'OK' at the confirmation.

How far do I have to go to get the heart to change size?

Over the first mile/km or so, the heart stays big but beats more slowly. Over the next 20 or so miles/km the heart will shrink. After that it slips down to the bottom of the screen. Future updates to the software might change this.

I know my lover is far away, but the heart shows them as very close. Why?

If your partner doesn't check in, we use their last known location. You can see if it has been a while since they checked in, because the two-hearts symbol slowly drifts apart the longer they leave it.

How do I fall out of love?

Keep taping the heart and shaking your iPhone repeatedly. Cracks will start to appear. Keep going. Eventually a confirmation will ask you if you really want to fall out of love.

How close do two people need to be to fall in love with each other?

Within approximately 50 metres/yards. Also, they need to tap the blue heart and confirm their choice within 5 minutes of each other.
